Genius Hour Blog #2

I have learned that I do not like this project. I do not like it because I don’t know what to do, how to do it, when I need to have something specific done by. I have learned that working with people on a long project doesn’t work out. I don’t like this project at all, it frustrates me and I can never focus. No matter how hard I try to focus it just doesn’t happen. I’m not a person that can just have a teacher tell you that there is a big project and then they have you pick your own topic and then just kinda leaves the rest to you. I tell myself I can’t write a lot when I am given a topic but when the teacher lets me pick I don’t what topic to pick and then it’s like I can’t write about that topic or research it. I just get bored. I like being given a topic or something to do because it makes me focus better. The fact that this project is so big and requires so many different things makes me not want to do it. It makes me frustrated and then I get bored and I just don’t want to do it. See as I am writing this all I can write about is how much I don’t want to do this project. I just want to be able to focus and find something that I can focus on and actually make it turn out a success.

The University of Iowa is a college I am taking into consideration to go to when I get older and graduate high school. My mom and her brother and sister went here. It is my families college and it is always the team my grandparents are cheering for. I am hoping that Iowa has the majors I am looking for. If not I wouldn’t mind going to a different college. I would like to be some type of scientist, like a biochemist, or a biophysicist. I would feel fine going to Iowa State if Iowa did not have the majors I am looking for. IF neither of them do then I will try to find a college that does. I think college will be easier in some way but harder in other way. I obviously know that I am going to have to study so that I can get the degrees I need. It will also be harder because it is not like all of the college professors are going to tell me if I have a late assignment or something. They are just gonna be there to do there job and teach. I am glad I have some time to think about what college I want to go to and what I actually want to do because I could change my mind about this tomorrow.Iowa_Old_Capitol_IMG_3198

Genius Hour

In my project for genius hour I have decided to work with my friend Sydney. We will be having mental illnesses for our topic. We have decided to focus on why mental illnesses are so common. Nearly 1 in 5 Americans suffer from a mental illness. That is 18.2 percent of adults that suffer from mental illnesses. This topic is important to me because some of my family members including myself suffer from mental illnesses. It’s not even just about my family. It is the fact that a lot of people suffer from mental illnesses. Some people even commit suicide caused by having a mental illness. My goals for this project are to learn different types of mental illnesses, the symptoms of them, figure out percentages and people all over the world that suffer from a mental illness. To see if any are treatable and which ones are and just to learn as much as I can about the topic. From here I am going to research on the next day I have genius hour and my partner and I are going to try and make a great project out of this.

My spring break was pretty exciting. I sat at home some days but the days I didn’t stay at home I hung out with my friends and we had a lot of fun. Friday night, Saturday, and Sunday I spent at home. On Monday I went and got ice cream from the Dariette with my friends Tailen and Diandra. On Tuesday I stayed home. On Wednesday I had Tailen and Diandra over for dinner but none of us ate. After we sat at my house for a little bit we left and drove around. Later we went to McDonald’s to meet some friends. When we left these guys that are not that much older than me started following us. They followed us for almost an hour. We went to turn a corner in this one neighborhood to get away from them and they were right there so we had to turn around but we hit the curb so we had to back up. In that moment I knew I was going to die. They didn’t stop or even slow down. They were so close to hitting us. Thankfully we got out of there safe. Then, we went and parked at the airport and got in our friends car. He then drove us to this haunted cemetery. It was really creepy. We just kinda drove around and listened to music the rest of that night. It was so much fun. On Thursday Chase, Diandra, and Tailen all picked me up in Chase’s car. We drove around and right as we got outside of town Chase got pulled over for speeding. Then he got let off on a warning but he dropped us off and we went back to Diandra’s. On Friday i hung out with Diandra, Tailen, Blake, and Colton. We all sat at Diandra’s and just messed around and ate food. That is how I spent my spring break.

Week 10

I have published 7 posts. They were all from the blogging challenges. I received 2 comments from a girl who I believe was a teacher from Norway. I really enjoyed writing about nature. I did change my blog theme a little bit just to personalize my blog a bit. I really liked having this blogging challenge because it prepared me for writing assignments about certain topics in the future.

Uranus and Neptune

Uranus I think is a really cool planet. It is the seventh planet from the sun. Uranus was the first planet discovered. It was discovered on March 13, 1781. They had seen it many times before it was discovered as a planet, but they ignored it because they just thought it was a star. Uranus was visited by the Voyager 2, which is a spacecraft, on January 24, 1986. Uranus is created mostly of rock and different types of ices. It also has about 15% of Hydrogen and a little bit of Helium. The atmosphere of Uranus is about 83% Hydrogen, 15% Helium, and 2% Methane. Uranus has its blue color because of the absorption of red light by Methane. Uranus has 13 known, very faint rings around it. When the voyager 2 went to Uranus it discovered 10 small moons, but there is already 5 larger moons that were already known. Uranus today has 27 known moons. Uranus has an axis tilt of 98 degrees because it is tipped on its side. Uranus is the coldest planet in the solar system. Summer on Uranus lasts 42 years. It takes 84 Earth years for Uranus to rotate around the sun once. Also one day on Uranus lasts about 17 hours.

Neptune is the eighth planet from the sun. The planet was first seen September 23, 1846. Neptune has been visited once and it was by the Voyager 2 on August 25, 1989. Neptune is a gas planet. It has lots of storms and the planet has the fastest winds in the solar system. The winds on Neptune can get up to 600 meters per second. Neptune has 5 known rings and 14 known moons. It also had one of the largest storms ever spotted. It lasted 5 years and was called the Great Dark Spot. It takes 164.79 Earth years for Neptune to rotate the sun once. Also one year on Neptune is 16,190 days and a day on Neptune lasts about 16 hours.

Macaroni and cheese

Macaroni and cheese has been one of my favorite foods since I was little. Macaroni and cheese is just cooked elbow macaroni noodles and melted cheese mixed in that make thick, creamy, cheesy, and delicious noodles.

I love macaroni because it is easy to make and it is nice to have for lunch or dinner. It’s simple and easy and it is a time saver if you have stuff to do. Also it’s delicious to eat. You can serve it with a variety of foods. Like, cooked vegetables, you could serve it as a side with hamburgers or grilled food, you can serve it with fruit, you can serve it with chicken nuggets, pizza, or a big variety of foods. You can serve it at anytime of the year, Winter, Summer, Spring, and Fall. I love macaroni and cheese. I could eat it for the rest of my life. My favorite is the Kraft mac and cheese. I highly recommend not to eat it runny filled with a lot of water but with a lot of cheese. Macaroni is a very good food that a recommend to anybody who hasn’t tried it. I hope you like it as much as I do.

My Best Friend and I

This is my best  friend, I don’t know what I would do without her. We have or disagreements but we always get through them. She has always been there for me and I will always be there for her too. She is the best friend that I could ever ask for.

Whenever we hang out we are always laughing or being extremely goofy and loud. Sometimes we make food and just chill and watch Netflix or we will go out to eat with other friends and then go back to one of our houses and chill with each other’s moms and laugh about their stories.

She is always getting me into activities. Like she got me to try out for the Hawkeye Theater Christmas play and we both got parts in it. She also got me into helping with our high school’s band competitions and helping move things for the half- time show for the band and I’m not even in band.

This is one friendship I hope never ends and I will always remember even if it ever does.

Raise Your Voice!

Bullying is extremely hard for a lot of people to speak up about.  There are a lot of people who get bullied everyday.

When I was in 5th grade I remember a boy named Chase who was in 8th grade. He had been getting bullied really bad and didn’t tell anyone. One day it just got so bad for him that he just gave up. His younger brother found him one day after school and he was dead. I remember going to his viewing and seeing all of the people there and thinking that probably none of them thought he was going through such a hard time. It was really hard to see how devastated his family and friends were.

Another person I know who has been bullied really bad is someone very close to me that I will keep unnamed. He went to this school and everyday he would get picked on. He was only in 5th grade. He used to get tripped in the hallway, hit, kicked, and taunted. But when his mother went to the school about it they focused on the fact that he hit one of the kids that messed with him. The mother went to the school about the same things so much that she got sick and tired of the school not doing anything about it. Then she switched her son schools. He now goes Humboldt and does much better there. At least he had a happy ending but just think about all of the other kids out the cutting, self- harming, and committing suicide. Even the kids that are getting bullied and don’t do that stuff.. they all feel hated and unwanted. All it takes is one compliment, or a smile to make their day, because you don’t know what they have going on at home or what happens to them after and outside of school.
